13 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Transportation and Works Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Transportation and Works Committee with the following action:

 

PRESENTATION

1. Kees Schipper, Commissioner of Transportation and Works presented the 2004 Budget and Business Plan for Roads, Solid Waste Management, and Water and Wastewater.  Committee received the presentation and recommended that the 2004 Budget and Business Plan for Roads, Solid Waste Management, and Water and Wastewater be approved as submitted, and forwarded to the March 3, 2004 Finance and Administration Committee meeting for inclusion in the 2004 Consolidated Regional Budget, and that;

(a) Staff be requested to provide a listing prior to February 19, 2004 itemizing the timing of Roads capital projects which are ready to proceed to tendering after the Roads Capital budget is approved;

 

(b) Staff be requested to provide a report as soon as possible outlining the cost sharing arrangements between the City of Toronto and the Town of Markham for the Markham By-Pass; and

 

(c) Staff be requested to have further discussions with Town of Markham Staff regarding the educational component of the Solid Waste Management Operating budget.

 

COMMUNICATION

2. Kees Schipper, Commissioner of Transportation and Works, dated January 23, 2004 [8MB], regarding 'Five-Year Work Plan for Watershed Planning Studies, Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan'.  Received.

 

OTHER BUSINESS

3. Committee was referred to Clause 5, Report 1 of the Transportation and Works Committee regarding the 16th Avenue Trunk Sewer, Phase 2 Construction Contract, Town of Markham, Project 74030.  Regional Council at its January 22, 2004 meeting, referred the following Recommendation 4 of the December 18, 2003 Report of the Commissioner of Works back to the Transportation and Works Committee to allow the residents of Jennings Gate to make representation to the Committee:

"4. Regional Council approve a financial contribution of $147,000 to the Jennings Gate Estates Municipal Water System Project, subject to the Region receiving the necessary approval from the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) and executing a contract for Phase 2 construction with McNally/Aecon."

Committee recommended that the Jennings Gate residents be requested to attend the March 3, 2004 Transportation and Works Committee to discuss this project.

 

PRIVATE SESSION

4. Committee resolved into Private Session at 12:10 p.m. to consider legal matters and resumed in open session at 12:19 p.m. with no report out.

 

The Transportation and Works Committee adjourned at 12:20 p.m.
