11  UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Transportation and Works Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Transportation and Works Committee with the following action:

 

PRESENTATION

 

1.  Michael Garrett, Chief Administrative Officer and Paul Jankowski, Director, Infrastructure Design and Construction made a presentation entitled 'MOE Approvals Update'.  The presentation provided background information on the MOE Environmental Assessment Approvals and Permit to Take Water processes and outlined the conditions whereby York Region has been granted approvals for the Region of York's sewage projects.  Regional Chair Bill Fisch extended sincere thanks to the Staff team and Council Members who have participated in this important and arduous process.  Received.

 

COMMUNICATION

2.  Mayor Margaret Black, Township of King, dated October 1, 2004, regarding recognition of staff for presentations on King City Water Supply and Storage.  Received and that those named in the communication be advised accordingly.

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

3.  Andy Campbell, Director of Solid Waste Management, distributed a letter dated September 30, 2004 from George W. Bruchmann, Chief, Waste and Hazardous Materials Division, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality providing an update regarding York Region's Application for Certification of Equivalent Landfill Disposal Prohibitions.  The letter stated that the Application has been granted, but is limited to municipal residential waste only and that commingling with unapproved waste such as industrial, commercial, and institutional waste or municipal residential waste from an unapproved jurisdiction is not approved.  Received and referred to Staff for report to the October 21, 2004 Regional Council meeting.

 

PRIVATE SESSION

 

4.  Committee resolved into Private Session at 11:20 a.m. to consider legal matters and resumed at 11:45 a.m. with no report.

 

 

The Transportation and Works Committee adjourned at 11:46 a.m.
