The Transit Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Transit Committee with the following action:
 
ELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR
 
1.  Regional Councillor Jim Jones was elected Chair and Mayor Margaret Black was elected Vice-Chair of the Transit Committee for 2004.
 
COMMUNICATIONS

2.  Kate Zavitz, Association of Municipalities of Ontario, dated October 27, 2003, regarding 'Tax Exempt Transit Benfits'.  Received and Staff be requested to report with respect to the preparation of resolutions to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities regarding this matter.
 
3.  Dave Levac, M.P.P. Brant, dated September 29, 2003, regarding 'Tax Exempt Transit benefits'.  Received and Staff be requested to report with respect to the preparation of resolutions to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities regarding this matter.
 
4.  Gillian A. Daborn, Holland Landing resident, dated October 6, 2003, regarding 'York Region Transit Mobility Bus'.  Received.
 
 
6.  Debora McDermott, Executive Assistant to the Mayor and Members of Council, Town of East Gwillimbury forwarding a communication dated January 13, 2004 from Cassie O'Brien, Youth Advisory Committee Member, Town of East Gwillimbury, regarding 'Transit Service to Mount Albert'.  Received.
 
OTHER BUSINESS
 
7.  Irene McNeil, Manager, Service Planning, York Region Transit, made a presentation regarding the 2003 Ridership Summary for Conventional Services and Specialized Services.  Received.
 
8.  The Transit Committee recommends that Vice-Chair Margaret Black be appointed as a member of the Rapid Transit Public/Private Partnership Steering Committee.
 
9.  Mary Lou Johnston, Manager, Marketing & Customer Service, York Region Transit, made a presentation regarding York Region Transit marketing materials which included the following:  Mobility Plus information packages, route maps, transit schedules, transit newsletters, and the 2004 Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) calendar.  Received.
 
The Transit Committee adjourned at 10:50 a.m.
