11  UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Planning and Economic Development Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Planning and Economic Development Committee with the following action:

 

 

PRESENTATION

 

1. Annabel Slaight, Vice-Chair, Alliance for a Better Georgina, March 29, 2006,regarding Community Mapping Project Initiative. Received with thanks.

           

           

COMMUNICATION

           

2. D. Gayle Wood, Chief Administrative Officer, Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, May 11, 2006, relating to Request for Support Regarding the Decision of the Ministry of Natural Resources to No Longer Issue Approvals Under the Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act.

 

The Committee received the communication and directed the Regional Clerk to send a letter to the Minister of Natural Resources advising that the Region supports the position of the Conservation Authorities that the proposed changes to the legislation should only occur with additional funding from the Province.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

3. The Committee welcomed Simon Cheng, the new Director for the Human Services Planning Coalition.

 

4. The Committee congratulated staff on receiving the Canadian Institute of Planners Award for Planning Excellence, in the category of environmental planning, for the York Region State of the Environment Report. This document was prepared jointly by staff from the Planning and Development Services Department, Health and Emergency Medical Services Department and the Community Services and Housing Department.

 

 

The Planning and Economic Development Committee adjourned at 2:40 p.m.
