3 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS
The Planning and Economic Development Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Planning and Economic Development Committee with the following action:
PRESENTATIONS
1. Susan Taylor, Director, Human Services, regarding 'Human Services Planning Coalition Status Update'. Mr. Bill Hogarth, Director of Education, York Region District School Board and Regional Councillor Joyce Frustaglio, Co-Chairs of the Human Services Planning Coalition were also present and spoke about the partnership between service providers, government representatives, consumers and related stakeholders. Received.
2. John Waller, Director, Long Range and Strategic Planning regarding the Greater Golden Horseshoe, GTA and Hamilton Population, Household and Employment Forecasts Update.
The Committee received the presentation and recommended that staff be directed to report back to Committee on the following issues:
1. The legislative requirements of regional and local municipalities to accept these provincial forecasts for growth in the GTAH.
2. Raising the awareness of the provincial government to the need for certain key regional infrastructure to be in place to accommodate the increased population and the need to streamline the environmental assessment process. Critical infrastructure requirements of the Province to accommodate these growth forecasts should also be identified.
3. The need for a new planning framework to facilitate the achievement of these forecasts in a more compact form.
4. Initiating a communication process with the public. This program should be at a provincial level, linked to regional programs with a goal to change individual values, an understanding of where policy originates and what these forecasts mean.
