7 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS
The Solid Waste Management Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Solid Waste Management Committee with the following action:
COMMUNICATIONS
1. Gloria Marsh, Chair, York Region Environmental Alliance,
2. Liz Gibson, Deputy Clerk, Town of Newmarket,
3. Carolyn Lance, Administrative Assistant to the Town Clerk, Town of Georgina, August 29, 2006, advising that Town of Georgina Council endorsed the Region's position to support in principle the Position Paper prepared by the AMO/AMRC Waste Management Task Force regarding Household Hazardous Waste/Household Special Waste. Received.
OTHER BUSINESS
4. Durham/York Joint Waste Management Environmental Assessment Update
The Committee was advised that public meetings were held (or will be held) on site selection criteria on September 12, 13 and 14, 2006 in

The Committee was advised that the Region has alternate solutions for disposing of waste including the implementation of the Dongara contract and the green bin program which should be in effect in 2008. The
6. Liquor Control Board Bottle Return
The Committee was informed of the announcement by the Minister of the Environment relating to bottle returns. The Region's total diversion rate will be slightly impacted as will revenue received through WDO. The decreased revenue is offset by reduced operating costs and the LCBO stewardship is encouraged.
