3 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS
The Solid Waste Management Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Solid Waste Management Committee with the following action:
ELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE-CHAIR
The Solid Waste Management Committee elected Regional Councillor Ferri as Chair and Regional Councillor Heath as Vice-Chair, subject to their consent, for the year 2008.
DEPUTATION
1. Ed Candolini, Communities First, January 7, 2008, regarding York Region's participation in the Energy from Waste project. Received.
PRESENTATION
2. Michael Birett, Manager, Waste Division, regarding Waste Management 2008 Proposed Priorities for Diversion. Received.

3. John Vidan, Director, Waste Management Policy Branch, Ministry of the Environment, December 7, 2007, regarding York Regional Council endorsing the development of a diversion program for waste electrical and electronic equipment under the Waste Diversion Ontario Act, 2002. Received.
4. Patti L. Barrie, CMO, Municipal Clerk, Clarington [9.6MB], December 11, 2007, regarding Durham/York Residual Waste Environment Assessment Study � Site Selection Process and requesting the Regions of Durham and York to respond to the issues identified by the peer review consultants that are necessary for the submission of the EA documentation to the Ministry of the Environment. Received and referred to the Durham/York Residual Waste Study Joint Waste Management Group.
5. Roman Talkowski, Chair, Canadian Polystyrene Recycling Association, December 17, 2007, regarding Canadian Polystyrene Recycling Association Suspending Operations. Received.
6. Dennis Darby, Chair and Gemma Zecchini, Chair, Stewardship Ontario, December 31, 2007, enclosing the third quarterly payment for the 2007 program year as industry's share of the net costs of the residential Blue Box recycling program. Received.
7. Eatware, Environment Appropriate Tableware, regarding products that could be manufactured and recycled in York Region. Received and referred to staff to request a meeting with representatives of the company and report back to Committee on the discussions.
PRIVATE SESSION
8. Committee resolved into private session at 9:55 a.m. to consider the following matter:
Clause 2, Report 1 of the Solid Waste Management Committee, entitled "Durham/York Residual Waste Environmental Assessment Study, Request for Proposals � Design, Build and Operate Energy from Waste Facility" � Security of municipal property.
Committee resumed in public session at 10:11 a.m. with no report out.
The Solid Waste Management Committee adjourned at 10:12 a.m.
