4 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS
The Solid Waste Management Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Solid Waste Management Committee with the following action:
 
COMMUNICATIONS

1. K. Schipper, Commissioner of Transportation and Works, dated August 22, 2003, regarding GTA Waste Management Initiatives. Received.
 
2. S. Birrell, Town Clerk, Town of Markham, dated August 27, 2003, regarding Markham Home Solution Composting Program.
 
Committee received the communication and recommended that the Town of Markham be advised that York Region would like to be involved in the truckload sale event being held on September 13, 2003 and will contribute a maximum of $11,000 towards the event, and that staff will report back to Committee on additional requirements, if any.
 
OTHER BUSINESS
 
3. Resolution regarding Excessive Packaging
 
Committee recommended a resolution be prepared by staff for the next Council meeting requesting the Province to review the standards and regulations relating to excessive packaging and that the resolution be forwarded to the Provincial and Federal Governments, the Smart Growth Panel, AMO and FCM for consideration.
 
PRIVATE SESSION
 
4. Committee resolved into Private Session at 9:46 a.m. to consider legal matters and resumed in Open Session at 11:10 a.m. with no report.
 
The Solid Waste Management Committee adjourned at 11:12 a.m.
