Lisa Gonsalves, Managing Director, Strategies and Partnerships Branch dated September 13, 2013, regarding 'Human Services Planning Board of York Region Staff Update' Received. 2. Denis Kelly, Regional Clerk, York Region dated February 22, 2013, regarding 'Update on the Implementation of the York Region Immigration Settlement Strategy' Received. 3. Tony Van Bynen, Mayor, Town of 4. Denis Kelly, Regional Clerk, York Region dated May 17, 2013, regarding 'Human Services Planning Board of York Region Year in Review 2012' Received. 5. Carolyn Lance, Council Services Coordinator, Town of DISCUSSION TOPICS 6. HSPB-YR Collaborative Advocacy Plan: Creating the conditions to increase the supply of private market rental housing in Staff presented the final draft of the Collaborative Advocacy Plan to the Board for consideration. The goal of the Plan is to create the conditions within the current environment to increase the supply of private market rental housing options in York Region for residents of all ages and stages to thrive. The Board formally approved the Collaborative Advocacy Plan. The Board requested that a staff report be brought forward in November 2013 requesting formal Regional Council endorsement of the Collaborative Advocacy Plan. 7. Progress Update: Making Ends Meet in Member Organization Action Plan Board members were provided with progress updates on activities submitted to the Making Ends Meet Action Plan by the following three member organizations: a) Women's Centre of York Region b) York Regional Police c) Welcome Centre Immigrant Services Women's Centre of York Region A progress update was provided on the Women's Centre of York Region's Financial Literacy Training program. The program helps low and moderate income families improve their financial literacy skills in order to make informed and budgeted financial decisions. York Regional Police York Regional Police provided a progress update on the Youth Opportunities Camp and Youth in Policing Initiative Program. The Youth Opportunities Camp provides an opportunity for students in grade 6 and 7 to attend a one week camp at the Community Safety Village. The program runs in the summer months and supports low and moderate income families by providing appropriate child care. The Youth in Policing Initiative Program employs students identified through a partnership with school boards. The program supports workforce development opportunities for youth in York Region. Welcome Centre Immigrant Services A progress update was provided on the Workforce Development Initiatives program offered by the Welcome Centre Immigrant Services. The program provides enhanced language training in specific employment sectors to support workforce development opportunities. The Board received the progress updates.
