The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:03 p.m. on November 24, 2004.

 

 

 

1  UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community Services and Housing Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:

 

 

RECEIPT OF DRAFT 2005 DEPARTMENTAL ACCESSIBILITY PLANS

CONSIDERED AT NOVEMBER 17, 2004 COMMITTEE MEETING

PRESENTATIONS

 

1. Joy Hulton, Regional Solicitor � Overview of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. Received

 

Staff was requested to draft a resolution for consideration by the Community Services and Housing Committee regarding amendments required to the Ontario Building Code to reflect the standards in the draft Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

2. Joanne Fowler, Manager of Policy and Program Development � Community Services and Housing Department. Received

 

3. Bruce Herridge, Deputy Chief of Police � York Regional Police. Received

 

4. Russ Smye, Director of Emergency Measures � Emergency Management Services. Received

 

5. Barry Crowe, Director of Property Services � Corporate Services Department. Received

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

6. Sharon Abrahams offered to arrange for David Lepofsky to speak to the Committee. Staff of the Community Services and Housing Department will make the necessary arrangements and advise the Committee members.

 

7. Zahra Brown questioned whether or not the Health Services training tapes could have closed captioning. Joann Simmons will address this with the Corporate Communications Division.

8. A copy of the invitation for the Public Consultation was distributed, with a request for Committee members to forward it to any interested stakeholders.

 

9. The Housing and Residential Services Division of the Community Services and Housing Department is organizing a focus group regarding the establishment of a centralized waiting list. Any Committee members interested in participating should contact Monica Bryce.

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 6:25 p.m.
