The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:12 p.m. on September 28, 2011.

The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community and Health Services Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:

PRESENTATIONS

 

1. Kim Adeney, Senior Program Analyst, AODA and Aisha Saintiche, Senior Program Analyst, ODA, Community and Health Services Department regarding 'Update on the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA)'  Received.

COMMUNICATIONS

 

1.  Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, dated August 2011, regarding 'June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism in Ontario'  Received.

 

2. Steven Kemp, Director, Traffic Management and Intelligent Transportation Systems, dated September 15, 2011, regarding 'Accessible Pedestrian Signal Program Status 2011'  Received.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

1. Aisha Saintiche, Senior Program Analyst, ODA, provided Committee with a presentation regarding 'Update on the Development of the 2011/2012 Accessibility Plan'.  

 

2. Margaret Gaukel invited Committee members to the 'Rick Hanson � Many in Motion' event taking place in East Gwillimbury on December 28, 2011. Margaret has been chosen by the Town of East Gwillimbury to carry the torch from Sharon Public School to the Civic Centre. The public is invited to participate.

 

3. Bob Creighton provided Committee with information regarding discussions he has had with Rogers local television about a program which would highlight accessibility and education. Committee members interested in receiving more information should contact Mr. Creighton.

 

4. Committee was introduced to Lisa Alfieri Sladen, Acting Manager, Program Development and Delivery.

 

5. Committee was advised that the renovation of the washrooms located just outside of the Seminar Room have been completed.

 

6. The next meeting of the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 4 p.m.

 

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 5:06 p.m.
