The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:03 p.m. on May 25, 2005.

UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community Services and Housing Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:

 

 

PRESENTATIONS

 

1. Brian Drew, Manager of Specialized Services, York Region Transit regarding "York Region Transit: 2005 Accessibility Plan Update"

 

Committee recommended that Transit staff invite members of the local municipal Accessibility Advisory Committees to participate in the review of the Transit Travel Training Program.

 

2. Liz Weldon, Communications Unit, Community Services and Housing Department regarding "YorkLink: A Community Services Directory � 2005". Received

 

 

COMMUNICATIONS

3. Kirsten Hill, York Region AAC Member dated May 9, 2005 regarding "Community Safety Village"

 

Following verbal updates from D. Trojan - York Regional Police, J. Hulton, Regional Solicitor and Regional Councillor D. Wheeler � AAC and Police Services Board member, Committee passed the following motion:

 

That the communication from Kirsten Hill regarding the Community Safety Village be received with thanks; and

 

That the recommendations contained in Ms Hill's May 9, 2005 communication be endorsed and forwarded to the York Region Police Services Board.

 

4. Chris Somerville, Clerk, Township of King [4.1MB] dated February 21, 2005 regarding "Township of King Accessibility Plan 2004 Update". Received

 

5. Wilf Morley, Chair, York Region AAC dated May 11, 2005 regarding "National Access Awareness Week � May 29 � June 4, 2005". Received

 

L. Gonsalves advised Committee of various activities planned for National Access Awareness Week, including a Customer Service newsletter and workshops and displays in the Administration Centre and South Services Centre.

 

 

ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION

 

6. Report from Wilf Morley, Chair, York Region AAC regarding "AAC Breakfast Workshop" hosted by Town of Newmarket AAC. Received

 

W. Morley advised Members of the next meeting scheduled for September 14, 2005, hosted by the Town of East Gwillimbury.

 

7. Update on Bill 118 � Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). Received

 

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
