1 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS
The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community and Health Services Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:
PRESENTATION

1. Joy Hulton, Regional Solicitor, Corporate Services, Legal Services, regarding "UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities". Received with thanks.
The Committee recommended that a congratulatory letter of support be forwarded from the Committee to the Canadian government, which would include inquiring about plans to broaden public awareness.
The Committee also recommended that the letter be copied to the federal representatives in

1. David J. Cash, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, regarding the "Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville 2010 Accessibility Plan". Received.
2. Heather Andrews, Chair, Whitchurch-Stouffville Accessibility Advisory Committee, dated March 19, 2010, regarding a Breakfast Meeting on May 12, 2010. Received.
3. Sharon Doyle, Manager, Mobility Plus, Transportation Services, dated March 11, 2010, regarding 'Improving Our Services with You". Received.
A memorandum from Sharon Doyle was distributed outlining the dates and venues for upcoming public consultation and information sessions.
The Committee recommended that each of the nine local municipalities' Accessibility Advisory Committees be provided with the information regarding the public consultation and information sessions and be invited to attend.
4. Kathleen Llewellyn-Thomas, Commissioner of Transportation Services, dated April 12, 2010, regarding 'York Regional Forest Trail Accessibility Update". Received.
OTHER BUSINESS
1. Cordelia Abankwa-Harris, Managing Director, Strategic Service Integration and Policy, Community and Health Services, regarding update on the "Recruitment for the 2010-2014 York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee".
The Committee recommended that, as part of the normal review process of the Terms of Reference for the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee, the Community and Health Services Committee and Regional Council consider the membership term limits, which are currently set at two terms, to determine whether this is appropriate, or whether an extension should be implemented.
2. Lisa Gonsalves, Manager, Program Development and Delivery, Community and Health Services, regarding update on the "Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005". Received.
3. Lois Davies, Program Manager, ODA/AODA, Community and Health Services, regarding "Update on the Development of the 2010 Accessibility Plan". Received.
The Committee was advised that Kirsten Hill will be presenting the 2010 Accessibility Plan to Regional Council on May 20, 2010 and the Members were invited to attend.
4. Kim Adeney, Senior Program and Compliance Analyst, AODA, Community and Health Services, regarding update on the "Independent Review of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, by Charles Beer and the

OTHER BUSINESS
1. York Regional Police Chief Armand LaBarge announced his retirement today, as of December 2010. It was requested that an email be forwarded by staff to Committee members requesting suggestions on what could be given to the Police Chief to show their gratitude for his valuable efforts regarding disability and accessibility issues.
2. The next meeting of the Accessibility Advisory Committee is scheduled for Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.
