The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:00 p.m. on June 20, 2007.

UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community Services and Housing Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:

 

 

PRESENTATIONS

 

1. Marc Gallant, Senior Multimedia Specialist, Corporate Communications, regarding "Region's Web Site Improvements". Received. 

 

2. Kevin Girard, Web Coordinator, Program and Policy Services Support Branch, Community Services and Housing Department, regarding "Community Services and Housing Accessible Web Site Demonstration". Received.

 

The Committee requested that staff investigate an interactive application on the web site whereby residents can provide feedback or identify access issues within the Region.

 

3. Darwin Trojan, Manager, Occupational Health and Safety, York Regional Police, regarding "Update on Initiatives in Partnership with the Canadian Hearing Society". Received.

 

The Committee requested that staff forward an electronic copy of the terms of reference for the York Regional Police Equity Advisory Committee to the committee members. 

 

4. Don Gordon, General Manager, York Region Transit regarding "York Region Updates:

 

1)  York Region Transit Mobility Plus Cross-Boundary Trial Service Report 

2)  York Region Transit Mobility Plus Appointment of Eligibility Appeal Panel

3) York Region Transit Mobility Plus Operational Strategies."  Received.

 

The Committee requested that York Region Transit staff report back to the September 26, 2007 AAC meeting concerning:

i) implementation of the Mobility Plus operational strategies and their impact on cancellations and no shows;

ii) peak service issues;

iii) capacity issues for sedans;

iv) annual customer satisfaction survey results.

The Committee requested that staff provide committee members with upcoming dates for the "ODA � Inclusion and Accessibility � Just Ask!" course.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

10. Lisa Gonsalves, Senior Program Manager ODA, Community Services and Housing regarding "AccessON." 

 

The Committee requested that staff include a link to the AccessON website in the Accessibility Planning section of the Region's website.

 

11. Don Gordon, General Manager, York Region Transit advised the Accessibility Advisory Committee that Sharon Doyle has officially been appointed Manager, Mobility Plus, York Region Transit.

 

12. Trish Robichaud provided an update on the British Columbia government's "2010 Legacies Now" initiative. 

 

The Committee recommended that, over the next several months, Trish Robichaud and Lisa Gonsalves review the BC government's "2010 Legacies Now" program and bring forward further information on the program for the Committee's review and discussion at their September 26, 2007 meeting.

 

13. National Access Awareness Week

 

The Committee requested that the Chair of the AAC forward a letter to the York Region Community Services and Housing Department in thanks for their staff's work on National Access Awareness Week and noting that members of the AAC will continue to be available to participate in future events that involve accessibility issues.

 

14. An additional Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 28, 2007, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., in addition to the regular meeting scheduled for November 21, 2007, to allow for the presentation of the Department Accessibility Plans for 2008.

 

15. Appointments to the AODA Sub Committee will be made at the September 26, 2007 meeting. The sub committee will meet separately and report through the Accessibility Advisory Committee. The sub committee will consist of three members of Council and two citizen members appointed by the Accessibility Advisory Committee. Interested members to indicate their interest at the September 26, 2007 AAC meeting.

 

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 5:49 p.m.
