The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:15 p.m. on February 23, 2005.

 

 

 

1  UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community Services and Housing Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:

 

 

ELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR

 

1. Wilf Morley and Regional Councillor Joyce Frustaglio were elected Chair and Vice Chair respectively for 2005.

 

 

COMMUNICATIONS

2. Chris Somerville, Clerk, Township of King dated February 2, 2005 regarding 'Proposed Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2004, Bill 118 Comments'. Received

 

3. Michele Kennedy, Clerk, Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville dated January 5, 2005 regarding "Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville 2005 Accessibility Plan'. Received

 

4. Wilf Morley, Chair, York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee dated January 7, 2005 regarding 'Accessibility Guide Project' and responses received. Received

 

5. Joann Simmons, Commissioner of Community Services and Housing Department dated February 14, 2005 regarding '2005 York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee Meeting Dates'. Received

 

6. Leonard Ng, Manager, Engineering Transportation, Transportation and Works Department dated February 7, 2005 regarding 'Design Standards'. Received

 

 

PRESENTATIONS

 

7. Shane Holten, Access Consultant, SPH Planning & Consulting Ltd. regarding 'Accessibility Study of the York Region Administrative Centre'. Received

 

Committee members were invited to forward any detailed comments regarding the Accessibility Study to Lisa Gonsalves.

 

Committee requested that a letter be forwarded to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing requesting timely modifications to the Ontario Building Code to coordinate with the new AODA legislation.

 

8. Cordelia Abankwa-Harris, Director and Monica Bryce, Acting Senior Program Manager, ODA, Policy and Program Support Services Division regarding 'Moving Forward: York Region's 2005 Accessibility Plan'. Received

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

9. Chair Morley expressed appreciation to Sharon Abrahams for her assistance in arranging the David Lepofsky forum on Bill 118.

 

10. Commissioner Simmons advised Committee of a February 1, 2005 article in the Richmond Hill Liberal highlighting Committee member Zahra Brown.

 

11. Commissioner Simmons and Chair Morley welcomed Lisa Gonsalves as Senior Program Manager, ODA. Chair Morley expressed appreciation to Monica Bryce for her assistance with the ODA and Accessibility Advisory Committee and wished her success in her new position in the Community Services and Housing Department.

 

12. A petition from Cam Jackson, M.P.P., Burlington was circulated for information.

 

13. Chair Morley advised Committee members of the Access Ontario II: Awareness, Unity, Empowerment conference being held in Burlington on June 13 � 14, 2005. Committee members interested in attending are asked to contact Lisa Gonsalves.

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
