The Transportation and Works Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Transportation and Works Committee with the following action:

 

 

ELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR

 

1. The Transportation and Works Committee elected Mayor Emmerson as Chair and Mayor Grossi as Vice-Chair of the Committee for the year 2009.

COMMUNICATIONS

 

2. Jeffrey A. Abrams, City Clerk, City of Vaughan, dated November 28, 2008, regarding 'King High Drive Review � One Year Report'.  Received and referred to staff.

     

3. Jeffrey A. Abrams, City Clerk, City of Vaughan, dated November 28, 2008, regarding 'Proposed Highway 407 Interchange Improvements in Vaughan'.  Received and referred to staff.

 

4. Ms. Donna McLarty, Town Clerk, Town of Richmond Hill, dated December 2, 2008, regarding 'Speed Limit Reduction on Yonge Street from Levendale Road to Elgin Mills Road and from Highway 7 to Major Mackenzie Drive'.  Received and referred to staff to be addressed in conjunction with the upcoming speed limit report.

 

5. Ms. Agatha Garcia-Wright, Director, Environmental Assessment and Approvals Branch, Ministry of the Environment, dated December 8, 2008, regarding 'Southeast Collector Trunk Sewer and Duffin Creek Water Pollution Control Plant Stage 3 Expansion Project'.  Received.

 

6. Ms. Kimberley Kitteringham, Town Clerk, Town of Markham, dated December 17, 2008, regarding 'Highway 7 Cross Section Between Montgomery Avenue and Sciberras Road'.  Received and referred to staff.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

7. Transportation Services staff were requested to copy the applicable member(s) of the Committee on any relevant correspondence related to items raised at the Transportation and Works Committee.

 

8. On behalf of Regional Council and Committee, Regional Chair Fisch recognized and thanked Brian Harrison for his exemplary service to the Region and the residents of the Region over the last 31 years, and wished him well in his retirement.  Brian commenced his employment with the Region in 1978 as an Assistant Roads Design Engineer and worked his way up to his current appointment as Director, Operations in 1999.  The Committee and CAO provided further comments and congratulations to Brian.

 

9. Regional Chair Fisch announced and congratulated Dino Basso on his secondment to the position of Executive Director, Strategic Initiatives and Administration in the CAO's office, to replace Neil Garbe who has taken the CAO position with the Town of Aurora.  The Committee and CAO provided further comments and congratulations to Dino.

 

 

PRIVATE SESSION

 

The Committee resolved into private session at 11:22 a.m. to consider the following:

 

10. Private Attachments to Item D10 Commissioner of Corporate Services (Acquisition of Land, Various Projects, Township of King and Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville) - Acquisition of Property.

 

The Committee resumed in public session at 11:23 a.m. with no report out.

 

 

The Transportation and Works Committee adjourned its meeting at 11:24 a.m.
