The Transit Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Transit Committee with the following action:

 

DEPUTATION

1. John Rogers, C.A.O., Town of East Gwillimbury made a deputation in opposition to proposed service reductions for Routes 52 and 55, Holland Landing and Sharon respectively as outlined in the Memorandum, February 5, 2004 from Kees Schipper, Commissioner of Transportation and Works with respect to the York Region Transit Service Rationalization Backgrounder.  Also in attendance to support Mr. Rogers' position were Mayor J. Young and East Gwillimbury Councillors Virginia Hackson, Jack Hauseman, Marlene Johnston and Cathy Morton.  Committee received the deputation and referred it to discussion of the York Region Transit Service Rationalization Backgrounder.  (See Item 3.2 below.)

 

COMMUNICATIONS

2. Memorandum, February 5, 2004, from Kees Schipper, Commissioner of Transportation and Works forwarding the York Region Transit Service Rationalization Backgrounder.  Received.

 

3. Jim Baird, Commissioner of Development Services, Town of Markham, February 11, 2004,  forwarding Town of Markham Review of Proposed York Region Transit Service Cuts.  Received.

 

4. Regional Councillor D. Barrow, Town of Richmond Hill, February 11, 2004, forwarding comments by Marcel Lanteigne, Manager, Transportation, Environmental & Engineering Division, Town of Richmond Hill forwarding comments regarding the York Region Transit Service Rationalization Backgrounder.  Received.

 

PRESENTATIONS

5. Kees Schipper, Commissioner of Transportation and Works and Don Gordon, General Manager, Transit presented the 2004 Business Plan for York Region Transit and York Region Rapid Transit Plan.  Committee directed that further consideration of this matter be deferred to a Special Meeting of the Transit Committee to be held at 2:00 p.m. on february 25, 2004.

 

6. Committee deferred the presentation of the Customer Satisfaction Survey - 2003 Results by Mary Lou Johnston, Manager, Marketing & Customer Service, York Region Transit to the March 11, 2004 Transit Committee meeting.

 

(Regional Council at its meeting on February 19, 2004, amended the foregoing Item to defer the presentation of the Customer Satisfaction Survey 2003 Results to the April 15, 2004 Transit Committee meeting.)   

 

OTHER BUSINESS

7. Irene McNeil, Manager, Service Planning, York Region Transit, made a presentation regarding the 2003 Ridership Summary for Conventional Services and Specialized Services.  Received.
