The Solid Waste Management Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Solid Waste Management Committee with the following action:

 

 

PRESENTATIONS

 

1. Kazuo Kato and Kaoru Shin, General Manager, Sales Division, Environmental Plant Division, Trillium Recycling and Energy Management Corporation, regarding a development proposal (recycle, compost and engine-generator to aspire to zero waste).  Received. (Please refer to Clause 5, Trillium Recycling Proposal, relating to Request for Proposal, New and Emerging Waste Management Technology Research Facility, RFP No. P-03-80).      

           

           

COMMUNICATIONS

1. Carolyn Lance, Administrative Assistant to the Town Clerk, Town of Georgina, May 7, 2004, regarding the Town of Georgina's position on the collection of yard waste in clear plastic bags. Received and referred to staff.

           

2. Anita Moore, Town Clerk, Town of Newmarket, May 14, 2004, regarding the Town of Newmarket's position on the collection of yard waste in clear plastic bags and the elimination of grass clippings from the curbside collection. Received and referred to staff.

 

3. Sheila Birrell, Town Clerk, Town of Markham, May 26, 2004, regarding Expanded Curbside Recycling Program. Received and referred to staff. In considering this communication, Committee requested a special meeting of the Solid Waste Management Committee be held on June 16, 2004, immediately following the Transportation and Works Committee, to consider a further staff report regarding the costs associated with processing additional blue box material and bag breaking and bag removal at the Bales Drive Material Recovery Facility.

           

4. Sheila Birrell, Town Clerk, Town of Markham, May 26, 2004, regarding Waste Diversion of Ontario Funding. Received.

           

5. Regional Councillor Barrow, Town of Richmond Hill, June 1, 2004, regarding Minutes of Waste Management meeting of May 18, 2004. Received and referred to staff.

 

PRIVATE SESSION

 

Committee resolved into Private Session at 10:50 a.m. to consider legal matters and resumed in Public Session at 11:25 a.m. with no report out.

 

 

The Solid Waste Management Committee adjourned at 11:25 a.m.
