The Solid Waste Management Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Solid Waste Management Committee with the following action:

 

 

DEPUTATIONS

 

1. Helmut Kik, resident, Sutton, regarding Halton Recycling and Solid Waste Management Research in York Region. Received.

 

2. Blair McArthur, Senior Vice President and Derick Cathcart, General Manager, Engineer, The Miller Group, regarding the capabilities of the new York Region Waste Management Centre. Received.

 

 

COMMUNICATION

3. J.D. Leach, City Clerk, City of Vaughan, April 21, 2005, regarding the Asian Long-horned Beetle Yard Waste Processing Site. Received.

 

 

DEFERRED REPORT

 

4. Waste Transfer and Processing Facility Approval - Waste Excellence Corporation

The Solid Waste Management Committee deferred the report dated April 28, 2005, from the Commissioner of Transportation and Works until such time as the Ministry of the Environment has dealt with the concerns of the City of Vaughan.  The Committee requested staff to report back on any outstanding issues at that time.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

5. Committee was advised of the opening of the new Household Hazardous Waste Facility in southwest York Region located at 2840 Rutherford Road in Vaughan.  This is also the location of a Regional works yard and a joint operations centre of the City of Vaughan.

 

 

The Solid Waste Management Committee adjourned at 11:15 a.m.
