The Solid Waste Management Committee began its meeting at 9:10 a.m. on March 10, 2004.

1  UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Solid Waste Management Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Solid Waste Management Committee with the following action:

 

 

PRESENTATION

 

1.  Andrew Campbell, Director, Waste Management and David Merriman, MacViro Consultants, regarding new and emerging technologies for waste treatment and disposal. Staff advised a report will be brought forward in April with the results of the RFP.  Received.

 

Committee also requested staff to bring forward a report in April regarding the Region's current waste management programs and recommending a communication strategy relating to the implementation of emerging technologies for waste treatment and disposal.

 

COMMUNICATIONS

 

2. Committee recommends the following communications be received and

referred to staff for appropriate action:

1. Randy Chartrand, Canadian Waste Recycling Inc., February 10, 2004,  and February 3, 2004, requesting Council to approve the diversion of used asphalt roof shingles collected in their Municipality, from being landfilled, and to instead be stockpiled for recycling, at a location within the Municipality.

 

2. Carolyn Lance, Administrative Assistant to the Town Clerk, Town of Georgina, February 12, 2004, regarding correspondence from York Region dated January 28, 2004, Halton Recycling Limited Contract.

 

3. J.D. Leach, City Clerk, City of Vaughan, February 13, 2004, adopting without amendment, Item 4, Report No. 14, Clean City Program Report, at its meeting of February 9, 2004.

 

4. Rod Muir, Founder, Waste Diversion Toronto and Waste Diversion Campaigner, Sierra Club of Canada, GTA Group and Eastern Canada Chapter, February 15, 2004, regarding Assumed Composition of the Residual Waste Stream 68% Recyclable Material, MacViro Consultants.

 

5. Rod Muir, Founder, Waste Diversion Toronto and Waste Diversion Campaigner, Sierra Club of Canada, GTA Group and Eastern Canada Chapter, March 1, 2004 [2.9MB], regarding Source Separated Organics Implementation.

3. Stan Bertoia, General Manager, Construction and Utilities, Town of Markham, February 26, 2004, regarding Markham's Proposed 3-Stream Implementation Program. Received and referred to staff for a report to Council on March 25, 2004, with respect to matters discussed.

 

 

The Solid Waste Management Committee adjourned at 11:10 a.m.
