The Solid Waste Management Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Solid Waste Management Committee with the following action:
 
APPOINTMENT TO SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
 
1. Regional Chair Fisch, by the authority given to him by Council at its meeting held on December 11, 2003, appointed Mayor Taylor to the Solid Waste Management Committee.  Received.
 
ELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR
 
2. Regional Councillor Wheeler was elected Chair and Regional Councillor Ferri was elected Vice Chair of the Solid Waste Management Committee for 2004.
 
DEPUTATIONS
 
3. Mr. Rod Muir, Founder, Waste Diversion Toronto, regarding action to reduce packaging requiring disposal. Received and referred to staff for a report outlining what action the Region has taken to date with regard to reducing packaging requiring disposal.
 
4. Mr. Blair McArthur, Vice President, Miller Waste Systems, regarding York Region's composting requirements. Received.
 
PRESENTATION                 
 
5. A. Campbell, Director, Solid Waste Management, provided an update of the Waste Management Strategy, including an overview of the waste management businesses, current trends and pressures, 2004 issues, and 2004 initiatives. Received.
 
Committee requested staff to provide a report to Council on January 22, 2004, outlining a process by which presentations can be made to Members of Committee and Council by proponents of the RFP on New and Emerging Technologies.
 
COMMUNICATION

6. David Anderson, P.C., M.P., Minister of the Environment, November 26, 2003, responding to Regional Council's letter requesting action to reduce packaging requiring disposal. Received.
 
PRIVATE SESSION
 
7. Committee resolved into Private Session at  11:07 a.m. to consider legal and property matters and resumed in Open Session at 1:00 with no report.
  
The Solid Waste Management Committee adjourned at 1:05 p.m.
