3 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS
The Health and Emergency Medical Services Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by Health and Emergency Medical Services Committee with the following action:
DEPUTATIONS
1. Bruce Harber, President and CEO and Dave Weldon, Board Chair,
WHEREAS Southwest York Region has the fewest beds per 100,000 people served in the
WHEREAS York Region has a growth rate for seniors (age weighted population) that is almost double the Provincial rate; and
WHEREAS support of Phase II of the York Central Hospital redevelopment would help to reduce ambulance off load times, reduce pressure on response time, enhance service to the public as well as save significant costs to the Region; and
WHEREAS there is ongoing shortage of Alternate Level of Care (ALC) beds that is directly impacting the availability of acute care beds across the Region; and
WHEREAS
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Regional Municipality of York supports the request by York Central Hospital to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care that Phase II of York Central Hospital's redevelopment Plan be added to the Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal's 5-year capital program list; and
THAT this resolution be forwarded to the Minister of Health and Long Term Care, the Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal, the Minister of Finance, the Central Local Health Integration Network and all York Region M.P.P.'s.
2. Sara Lawson, Community Development Coordinator - GTA and John Scaini, Volunteer, Parkinson Society
WHEREAS there are approximately 100,000 people living with Parkinson's disease in Canada and approximately 3000 in York Region, and this number is expected to increase as our population ages and as the Region's population continues to expand; and
WHEREAS people living with Parkinson's and other movement disorders face unique challenges associated with their disease, including medical, social and economic burdens; and
WHEREAS there is a lack of services available to people with movement disorders in York Region, with only one centre available in York Region;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Central Local Health Integration Network be asked to explore the feasibility of establishing a movement disorder clinic in south-west York Region and the Region as a whole; and
THAT the Community Services and Housing and Health Services Departments work together to explore how services for people affected by movement disorders could be enhanced; and
THAT a copy of this resolution be sent to the Federal Minister of Health, the Provincial Minister of Health and Long-Term Care; and
THAT a copy of this resolution be sent to the area municipalities for information.

OTHER BUSINESS
7. Committee requested the Committee Chair to invite the Central Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) to make a presentation at a future Committee meeting.
8. Staff provided a verbal report on Bill 171 � Health System Improvements Act, 2007 and will be reporting back with further details as they become available.
The Health and Emergency Medical Services Committee adjourned at 3:43 p.m.
