The Health and Emergency Medical Services Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by Health and Emergency Medical Services Committee with the following action:

 

 

DEPUTATION

 

1. Tariq Asmi, Executive Director and Kirk Corkery, Chair of the GTA/905 Healthcare Alliance regarding the GTA/905 Healthcare Alliance. Committee received the presentation and directed staff to draft a resolution of support for the GTA/905 Healthcare Alliance initiatives.

 

 

PRESENTATION

 

1. Diane Bladek-Willett, Director, Health Information and Planning regarding the 'State of the Environment Report 2005'. Received with thanks.

 

 

COMMUNICATIONS

 

1. Town of Markham, dated January 19, 2005 regarding 'Local Health Integration Networks (LHIN)'. Received.

 

2. Town of Newmarket, dated January 26, 2005 regarding 'Local Health Integration Networks (LHIN)'. Received.

 

3. City of Vaughan, dated January 28, 2005 regarding 'Local Health Integration Networks (LHIN)'. Received.

 

4. Township of King, dated February 8, 2005, regarding 'Local Health Integration Networks (LHIN)'. Received.

 

5. Gail Paech, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, dated January 27, 2005 regarding 'Local Health Integration Networks (LHIN) boundary issues'. Received.

10. George Smitherman, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, dated March 9, 2005 regarding 'Special grant of $204,784 for diagnostic and treatment equipment for land ambulance service'. Received with thanks.

 

11. Town of Halton Hills, dated March 11, 2005, regarding 'Funding for Smaller Hospitals'. Received and endorsed.

 

12. Ontario Association of Non-Profit Homes and Services for Seniors, dated March 3, 2005 regarding '2005 OANHSS Leadership Award � Recipient Shawn Turner'. Received with congratulations to Mr. Turner.

 

14. The Honourable Jim Watson, MPP, Minister of Consumer and Business Services dated  March 22, 2005, regarding 'safe installation of child car seats'. Received with direction to staff to contact Transport Canada.

 

15. Local Health Integration Networks (LHIN): Building a True System Bulletin No. 9 dated April 1, 2005. Received with direction to staff to draft a resolution requesting the Province of Ontario to include the whole of York Region in the Central Health Integration Network.

 

 

PRIVATE SESSION

 

1. Committee moved to Private Session at 4:07 p.m. to consider legal matters and returned to public session at 4:10 p.m. with no report.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

1. Staff was directed to report to the June 2, 2005 Committee meeting regarding the status of any provincial no smoking legislation and its impact on York Region.

 

 

The Health and Emergency Medical Services Committee adjourned at 4:12 p.m.
