10  UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Community Services and Housing Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Community Services and Housing Committee with the following action:

 

PRESENTATIONS

 

1. Sylvia Patterson, Director of Housing and Residential Services, and Dennis Norton, Director, Business Services, made a presentation, using overheads, on the Capital Budget 2005 of the Community Services and Housing Department.

 

The Committee made the following recommendations to Council:

 

1. That the "Capital Project Summary" be received and forwarded to the Finance and Administration Committee meeting of December 2, 2004 for further consideration in terms of the Funding Sources, and further that staff be directed to prepare a report dealing with 2005 Budget only; and,

 

2. That our representative at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario present strongly our position and need for the Federal and Provincial governments to complete the joint agreement immediately.

 

2. Cordelia Abankwa-Harris, Director of Policy and Program Support, made a presentation, using overheads, regarding 'Status of York Region's Draft Accessibility Plan and Provincial Changes to the Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Impact on Municipalities'. Committee received and endorsed the Plan as presented.

 

 

COMMUNICATIONS

3. Hon. David Caplan, Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal, dated October 21, 2004 regarding the Progress Report and 2004/2005 Work Plan for the Housing Supply Strategy. Received

 

4. Hon. John Gerretsen, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, dated October 22, 2004 regarding the Progress Report and 2004/2005 Work Plan for the Housing Supply Strategy. Received

 

5. Memo From Joann Simmons, Commissioner of Community Services and Housing and Joy Hulton, Region Solicitor, dated November 9, 2004 regarding 'Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)'. Received and referred to discussion on the Presentation on AODA

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

The Committee resolved into Private Session at 3:55 p.m. to consider matters involving an identifiable individual and resumed into Open Session recommending the adoption of reports with names of individuals removed.

 

 

The Community Services and Housing Committee adjourned at 4:22 p.m.
