5  UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Community Services and Housing Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Community Services and Housing Committee with the following action:

 

DEPUTATION

 

1. Mr. John Scaini, Volunteer, Parkinson Society Canada. Received with thanks and that the following resolution be endorsed and referred to the Health and Emergency Medical Services Committee for consideration:

 

WHEREAS there are approximately 100,000 people living with Parkinson's disease in Canada and approximately 3000 in York Region, and this number is expected to increase as our population ages and as the Region's population continues to expand;

 

AND WHEREAS people living with Parkinson's and other movement disorders face unique challenges associated with their disease, including medical, social and economic burdens;

 

AND WHEREAS there is a lack of services available to people with movement disorders in York Region, with only one centre available in York Region;

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Central Local Health Integration Network and the Vaughan Health Care Foundation be asked to explore the feasibility of establishing a movement disorder clinic in a future health care facility in Vaughan;

 

AND THAT the Community Services and Housing and Health Services Departments work together to explore how services for people affected by movement disorders could be enhanced;

 

AND THAT a copy of this resolution be sent to the Federal Minister of Health and the Provincial Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.

PRIVATE SESSION

 

3. Committee resolved into Private Session at 2:58 p.m. to consider a Private Communication regarding Agenda Item No. 3, "A Potential Strategy to Deliver York Region's Allocation Under the Province's Developing Opportunities for Ontario Renters (DOOR) Initiative" relating to the security of municipal property and returned to Open Session at 3:19 p.m. with no report.

 

 

The Community Services and Housing Committee adjourned at 3:23 p.m.
