The Community and Health Services Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Community and Health Services Committee with the following action:

 

 

DEPUTATION

 

1. Joanne Krickovic, Area Manager, Heart and Stroke Foundation and Maroun Ackhar, Volunteer, regarding 'Public Awareness Campaign pertaining to Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED)'  (Please refer to Clause 6.3)  Received and referred to staff to report back in January 2013.

 

 

PRESENTATION

 

2. Verbal Presentation by Lisa Gonsalves, Managing Director, Strategic Service Integration and Policy regarding 'Ontario Immigration Settlement Strategy'  Received and directed staff to include the information presented as a communication on the December 5, 2012 Committee agenda.

3. Adelina Urbanski, Commissioner of Community and Health Services, dated November 7, 2012, regarding 'Heart and Stroke Foundation Campaign to Increase Bystander Involvement in Emergency and Cardiac Arrest Situations'  Received and referred to staff to report back in January 2013.

 

4. Fernando Lamanna, Deputy Clerk, Town of East Gwillimbury, dated October 9, 2012, regarding 'Resolution for Consolidated Dispatch'  Received.

 

5. Regional Councillor Jack Heath, on behalf of Robert Bick, dated September 20, 2012, regarding 'Tobacco Product Litter'  Received.

 

6. Rev Dr. Michael J. Pryse, Bishop, Eastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, dated September 19, 2012, regarding 'A Call for All Levels of Government in Canada to Develop and/or Expand Affordable Supportive Housing Strategies'  Received.

 

7. Adelina Urbanski, Commissioner of Community and Health Services, dated November 7, 2012, regarding 'Final Report of the Commission for the Review of Social Assistance in Ontario'  Received.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

Flu Shot Vaccines

 

8. Dr. Kurji, Medical Officer of Health, addressed recent concerns regarding two flu shot vaccines produced by Novartis, which were found to have clumping of proteins.  Dr. Kurji advised that although Canadian experts felt the vaccines were safe, Health Canada subsequently suspended the two vaccines pending risk assessments.  Following this, the Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario advised that the risk assessments had found no particular issues and that all the vaccines should continue to be used.

 

 

The Community and Health Services Committee adjourned at 2:26 p.m.
