9. Brian Lynch, Member of York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee, regarding 'Update on One Voice Network employABILITY Marketplace'  Received.

 

10. Leslie Bolt, Member of York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee, regarding 'Update on Accessibility Review of YRT Street Furniture'  Received.

Kim Adeney, Senior Program and Compliance Analyst, ODA/AODA, Community and Health Services, regarding update on 'National Access Awareness Week � June 2 to 8, 2013'  Received and recommended to the Community and Health Services Committee that staff write a letter to Regional Chairman Bill Fisch on behalf of the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee requesting that Regional Council recognize National Access Awareness Week from June 2 to 8, 2013 and that the letter be forwarded to the nine local Councils and their Accessibility Advisory Committees for consideration.

 

12. Lisa Gonsalves, Managing Director, Strategic Service Integration and Policy Branch, Community and Health Services, regarding 'Update on Accessibility Activities'  Received.

 

13. Committee and staff acknowledged the memory and legacy of Margaret Gaukel, former long serving member of and valued contributor to the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee, who passed on October 21, 2012.  Margaret played an instrumental role in the Committee's work, including efforts that led to the Region receiving the Excellence Canada - Ontario Accessibility Award, which she accepted at Regional Council on behalf of the Region in her capacity as Vice Chair of the Accessibility Advisory Committee.  Margaret also participated on the subcommittee leading to the Region's first accessible one-kilometre trail loop in the Hollidge Tract of the York Regional Forest - her photo graces the promotional brochure for this trail.  Margaret held various board positions with the MS Society at the local and provincial levels and also served as Chair of the East Gwillimbury Accessibility Advisory Committee.  As she made a significant difference in the community for people with disabilities, Margaret was selected to be the medal bearer for the East Gwillimbury leg of the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary cross-Canada relay in December 2011.

 

14. Steve Foglia thanked York Region staff for taking the initiative to order and make available for him a height adjustable table to use at Committee.

 

15. The next meeting of the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 4 p.m.

 

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 5:41 p.m.
