The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:17 p.m. on September 27, 2006.
1 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS
The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community Services and Housing Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:
PRESENTATIONS
1. Brian Drew, Manager Specialized Transit, Transportation and Works Department regarding an update on the eligibility criteria and appeals process. Received.
Committee requested that invitations be sent to all local Accessibility Advisory Committees to participate in the forum for reviewing the updated Mobility Transit application form.
2. Sonia Singh, Senior Public Health Inspector, Health Services regarding the York Region well water education package to ensure accessibility. Received.
Committee requested that follow-up letters be forwarded to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Public Health Infectious Diseases Branch Division (Safe Water Program) and the Laboratories Branch regarding the May, 2006 requests from the Region's Health Services Department.
3. Lois Davies, Senior Program Analyst, Community Services and Housing, regarding accessible meeting and alternate format policies. Received.
4. Marc Gallant, Senior Multimedia Specialist, Corporate Communications regarding an update on the Region's Web Site. Received.
Committee requested that a letter be sent to all local Accessibility Advisory Committees requesting them to encourage their municipalities to circulate documents in electronic format.
COMMUNICATIONS
5. Elma Stevenson, Committee Coordinator, Regional Clerk's Office dated June 28, 2006, regarding York Region Transit Mobility Plus, Request for Additional Cross-Boundary Location. Received.
6. Memorandum from Joann Simmons, Commissioner, Community Services, Housing and Health Services dated August 2, 2006 regarding area municipal statistics regarding the accessible parking infractions during National Access Awareness Week. Received.
7. Email dated August 28, 2006 from Mary Ann Proulx, YRAAC member regarding the Council of Canadians with Disabilities and Canadian Association for Community Living's national campaign designed to increase the investment of support for Canadians with disabilities. Received.
8. Town of Georgina dated September 21, 2006 regarding request for Speed Limit reduction, High Street, Sutton.
Committee received and referred the request to the Region's Transportation and Works Department for review and requested to be advised of the outcome.
OTHER BUSINESS
9. Cordelia Abankwa-Harris, Director, Policy and Program Support Branch, Community Services and Housing, regarding an update on 2007 York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee Recruitment Plans. Received.
10. Lisa Gonsalves advised Committee of the Ontario Main Street Accessibility Awards to honour work done to improve accessibility.

11. Wilf Morley advised Committee of a recent project of the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville's Accessibility Advisory Committee of an Accessibility Information and Education Day for Grade 7 and 8 students.

13. Committee viewed the First Local Accessibility Series featuring interview with Wilf Morley and Kirsten Hill of the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee aired on June 6th, 7th and 8th, 2006.
