The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:00 p.m. on September 28, 2005.
1 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS
The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community Services and Housing Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:
PRESENTATIONS
1. Brenda McGowan, Tourism Promotion Co-ordinator, Planning and Development Services Department, regarding "Update on the Premier Ranked Tourism Infrastructure Audit".
Committee received the presentation and requested that a letter be sent to the
2. Brenda McGowan, Tourism Promotion Co-ordinator, Planning and Development Services Department, regarding "Making Ontario's Heritage Accessible". Ms McGowan advised Committee that the Ontario Historical Society has developed a Tool Kit to assist Ontario Heritage sites to reduce barriers and increase accessibility. She announced that a Workshop is being organized for January, 2006 to provide information to stakeholders regarding the use of the Tool Kit.
Committee received the presentation and expressed its support for the project. Committee further agreed to send a letter to the local municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee inviting them to participate in the Workshop, subject to space considerations.
3. Gabe Tropea, Manager, Housing Development and Martha McBurnie, Project Supervisor, Housing Services, Community Services and Housing Department regarding "Modifications to Housing Units". Received
4. Lisa Gonsalves, Senior Program Manager ODA, Policy and Program Support Services Division, Community Services and Housing Department regarding "2006 Accessibility Planning Process".
Committee received the presentation and endorsed the proposed 2006 Accessibility Planning Process.

8. R. Hunn advised Committee of a resolution passed by the Town of
Committee requested that they be provided with a copy of the resolution and that a letter be sent to the Town of
9. M. Proulx advised Committee of an initiative of the Canadian Mental Health Association in partnership with the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration entitled "Mental Health Works". The program is designed to provide organizations with the tools and resources they need to actively address the issues involving mental illness.

12. The next meeting of the Committee is scheduled for October 26, 2005. C. Abankwa-Harris advised that a VIVA bus demonstration is tentatively planned for this meeting. Committee suggested the demonstration be held prior to the usual start time. Committee will be advised upon confirmation.
The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
