The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:01 p.m. on June 22, 2011.

 

 

 

1          UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community and Health Services Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:

PRESENTATIONS

 

1. Lois Davies, Program Manager, ODA/AODA, Community and Health Services Department, regarding 'Draft 2011/2012 Accessibility Plan'  Received with thanks.

 

The Committee requested a report back on the implementation of the new policy and procedure for transporting assistive devices and support animals.

 

The Committee requested a report back on the outcome of the focus group regarding the Summer Camp and PLAY programs for children with special needs.

 

The Committee requested a report back on how the Community and Health Services Department responds to the participants' input in Ontario Works Consumer Reference Groups.

 

The Committee suggested that when the Region builds new housing and long-term care facilities, the Request for Proposal process should include accessibility requirements for people with all types of disabilities.

 

The Committee suggested that the Region join the 'Accessible Housing Roundtable.'

           

2. Tracy Grover, Project Coordinator, Property Services, Corporate Services Department, regarding 'Draft 2011/2012 Accessibility Plan'  Received with thanks.

 

The Committee suggested that the design manual being considered should be named the York Region Universal Design Manual, rather than the York Region Accessibility Design Manual.

           

3. Michelle Herder, Program Manager, Corporate Customer Service Administration, Office of the CAO, regarding 'Draft 2011/2012 Accessibility Plan'  Received with thanks.

 

The Committee suggested that standardized font should be 14 pt. instead of 11 pt on all documents produced.

 

The Committee requested a demonstration of the Web Portal personalization technology.

 

4. Jonathan P'ng, Manager, Water and Wastewater Planning, Planning and Development Services Department, regarding 'Draft 2011/2012 Accessibility Plan'  Received with thanks.

 

The Committee suggested that the department's initiative where there are plans to include accessibility planning in new community developments, the word "reasonable" accessible be removed.

 

The Committee requested information on the department's definition of 'affordable housing.'

OTHER BUSINESS

           

1. Brian Edward Lynch, York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee, provided a verbal report regarding the "Actioning Accessibility Through Customer Service Forum"  Received.

 

Brian Lynch provided the website www.icandothis.ca for further information on the motivational speaker, Christine Karcza, who spoke at the forum.

           

2. Brian Lynch requested that the note taker present at the Accessibility Advisory Committee meetings forward the notes to all of the members.

           

3. The next meeting of the Accessibility Advisory Committee is on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 4 p.m.

 

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
