The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:12 p.m. on September 26, 2007.
1 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS
The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community Services and Housing Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:
PRESENTATIONS
1. Darryl Blakeley, Acting Manager, Customer Support, Information Technology Services, regarding research into 'TextNet' technology. Received.
2. Joy Hulton, Regional Solicitor and Lisa Gonsalves, Senior Program Manager, ODA, regarding an update on the "Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA)". Received.
3. Sharon Doyle, Manager, Mobility Plus, York Region Transit, regarding a report back on Mobility Plus items. Received.
The Committee requested that YRT staff provide updated statistics at year-end on the impact of the new operational strategies, give consideration to a database to store accessible communication format preferences for each client, and explore more accessible formatting on their website.
4. Trish Robichaud, YRAAC member, regarding a report back on the 'Accessibility Funding Research Project'.
The Committee requested that the Chair of the AAC forward a letter to Federal Minister of Finance concerning the $45 million Enabling Accessibility Fund announced in the March 2007 federal budget, and request further details on the status of this fund.
The Committee further requested that staff investigate the logistics of hosting or co-hosting a region-wide meeting of the local GTA Accessibility Advisory Committees and report back to the Committee.

7. Joann Simmons, Commissioner, Community Services, Housing and Health Services, regarding AODA Sub-Committee appointments. Received.
OTHER BUSINESS
8. AODA Sub-Committee Appointments
The Committee recommended that Margaret Gaukel and Kirsten Hill be nominated as the citizen representatives, and Regional Councillor Danny Wheeler, Regional Councillor John Taylor and Regional Councillor Vito Spatafora be nominated as the Regional Council representatives to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Subcommittee.
9. Administrative Centre Parking Lot Redevelopment
The Committee commended the Property Services Branch on the design of the Regional Administrative Centre parking lot.
10. ODA � Inclusion and Accessibility - "Just Ask" Training
Spaces are still available for the training on October 16 and 17, 2007. Committee members to contact Lisa Gonsalves to register.

The Honourable David Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will be the Keynote Speaker at the Annual General Meeting of the York Region South Simcoe Training and Adjustment Board to be held on October 4, 2007, 6:00 � 8:00 p.m. in the Canada Room at the Markham Civic Centre. All YRAAC members are invited to attend.
12. Next Meeting Dates
The next regularly scheduled AAC meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. An additional Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 28, 2007, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. These meetings have been scheduled to allow for the presentation of the 2008 Departmental Accessibility Plans.
The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
