The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:00 p.m. on April 23, 2008.
1 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS
The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community Services and Housing Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:

1. Michelle Herder, Program Manager, Corporate Customer Service Strategy, Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, regarding 'Update: AODA Customer Service Regulation'. Received.
2. Loretta Chandler, Manager, Emergency Management, Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, regarding 'York Region Emergency Management Program' [3MB]. Received.
Staff was requested to circulate the Reverse 911 sign-up information to all Committee members, who will forward the information through their networks.
The Committee recommended that Regional Council invite members of the AAC to participate in the annual emergency preparedness exercises, and also include representatives from the local municipal accessibility advisory committees. And further that exercises/scenarios that focus on persons with disabilities be included in the emergency preparedness exercises.
The Committee further recommended that the Emergency Management Branch include a representative from the AAC, or a person with a disability, in the development and review of their plans.

OTHER BUSINESS
7. Lois Davies, Acting Senior Program Manager, ODA, Community and Health Services Department, regarding 'YRACC's endorsement of National Access Awareness Week (June 1 to June 7, 2008)'. Received with direction that the Chair of AAC correspond with Regional Council to request recognition of this week.
8. Lois Davies, Acting Senior Program Manager, ODA, Community and Health Services Department, regarding 'Establishing Priorities in Implementing the 2008 Accessibility Plan'. Received.
Upon receipt of Council approval in May, the plan will be distributed to committee members. Committee members should come prepared in June to identify specific initiatives that the Committee can be involved in. Once approved, the plan will be posted on the website, and CD copies of the plan will also be made available.
9. Lois Davies, Acting Senior Program Manager, ODA, Community and Health Services Department, regarding brief update on the "Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005". Received.
10. Lois Davies, Acting Senior Program Manager, ODA, Community and Health Services Department, forwarding a copy of a letter received at the March 27, 2008 Ontario Network of Accessibility Professionals meeting from Tony Van Bynen, Mayor, Town of Newmarket, regarding 'Resolution R1-2008'. Received.
11. A request was made for all internal documents to be posted in an electronic vs. scanned format which is compatible for screen readers.
12. The Committee requested an updated large print seating plan for the Accessibility Advisory Committee.
The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 5:58 p.m.
