The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:05 p.m. on June 15, 2011.

 

 

 

1          UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community and Health Services Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:

 

 

PRESENTATIONS � DRAFT 2011/2012 DEPARTMENTAL ACCESSIBILITY PLANS

 

1. Introduction

 

Lois Davies, Program Manager, ODA/AODA, Community and Health Services, provided an introduction to the presentations to be made regarding the departmental accessibility plans.  Received.

2. York Regional Police

 

Ruth Houghton, AODA Coordinator, York Regional Police, presented the Draft 2011/2012 Accessibility Plan for York Regional Police.  Received with thanks.

 

The Committee suggested that some consideration be given to inviting people with disabilities, as well as parents of children with disabilities or adults who have survived mental illness to participate in YRP's Community Insight Program.

 

           

3. Environmental Services

 

Lucas Cugalj, Director, Strategy and Business Planning, Environmental Services, presented the Draft 2011/2012 Accessibility Plan for Environmental Services.  Received with thanks.

           

4. Finance

 

Val Sequeira, Manager, Business Information Systems Development, Finance, presented the Draft 2011/2012 Accessibility Plan for the Finance Department.  Received with thanks.

 

The Committee suggested that the department consider joining the Ontario Purchasing Group as a resource to information and best practices when purchasing goods and services for the Region.

           

5. Transportation Services

 

Piragal Thiru, Planner, Accessible Services, Transportation Services, presented the Draft 2011/2012 Accessibility Plan for Transportation Services.  Received with thanks.

 

The Committee suggested that the department consider making Lunch n' Learns mandatory for staff so that information about people with disabilities becomes part of core competency and professional development training.

1. Denis Kelly, Regional Clerk, York Region, dated April 21, 2011 regarding 'myRide Travel Training Program Update'  Received.

           

2. Chris Paule, Executive Assistant/HR Coordinator, CAO's Office, Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, dated May 10, 2011 regarding 'Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville 2011 Accessibility Plan'  Received.

           

3. Denis Kelly, Regional Clerk, York Region, dated May 20, 2011 regarding 'Metrolinx Joint Procurement Award � Mobility Plus Buses  Received.

           

 

OTHER BUSINESS

           

1. Kim Adeney, Senior Program and Compliance Analyst, AODA, Community and Health Services, provided a verbal update on the success of National Access Awareness Week.  Received.

           

2. Lisa Gonsalves, Acting Managing Director, Strategic Service Integration and Policy Branch, Community and Health Services, regarding 'Update on the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA)'  Received.

           

3. Marg Gaukel provided a verbal update on the success of the event "Accessibility in the Past, Present and Future" hosted by the Town of East Gwillimbury featuring David Lepofsky.  Received.

           

4. Lois Davies provided a verbal update on the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA).  Received.

           

5. The Committee Chair requested that two letters received from residents of Richmond Hill regarding VIVA Series 10 buses be added to the next agenda.

           

6. The Committee requested to see a Viva Series 10 bus at the meeting on September 28, 2011 and also, staff offered to have a prototype of a low-floor bus available at that meeting.

           

7. The next meeting of the Accessibility Advisory Committee at which the Draft 2011/2012 Accessibility Plans for Corporate Services, Community and Health Services, the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer and Planning and Development Services will be presented is scheduled for Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 4 p.m.

           

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 6:02 p.m.
