The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:01 p.m. on April 25, 2012.

 

 

1  UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community and Health Services Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:

 

 

PRESENTATIONS

 

1. Marcia O'Connor, Program Manager, Building Accessibility Program, Excellence Canada, People Access Division, regarding 'Overview of Universal Design'  Received.

2. Constable Aileen Nixon, Persons with Disabilities Safety Officer, York Regional Police, regarding 'Project Lifesaver and the Vulnerable Person Registry'  Received. 

           

3. Sylvia Patterson, General Manager, Housing and Long Term Care Branch, Community and Health Services, regarding 'Regional Housing and Homelessness Plan'  Received.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

           

4. Steve Foglia, York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee Vice-Chair, regarding the 'AAC Breakfast Meeting'

 

Committee was advised that the meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 beginning at 8 a.m., with Morris Faccin, Manager, Emergency Management as the guest speaker.

           

5. Steve Foglia, York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee Vice-Chair, regarding the 'Regional Emergency Exercise Planning Session' held on March 28, 2012

 

Committee was provided with a very positive review of the session.

 

6. Kim Adeney, Senior Program and Compliance Analyst, ODA/AODA, Strategic Service Integration and Policy Branch, Community and Health Services, regarding 'National Access Awareness Week � June 3 to 9, 2012'

 

Committee was advised that Regional Council has officially recognized June 3 to 9, 2012 as National Access Awareness Week, with this year's event being held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 3 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Administrative Centre.

           

7. Committee was advised of the resignation from the Accessibility Advisory Committee of citizen member Margaret Gaukel.

           

8. Committee acknowledged the good work of Sharon Doyle, Manager, Mobility Plus, in providing information and clarification on the changes to the Mobility Plus system.

           

9. The next meeting of the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 4 p.m.

 

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 6:03 p.m.
