The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:08 p.m. on February 27, 2008.

 

 

 

1  UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community Services and Housing Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:

 

 

ELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR

 

1. Regional Councillor Danny Wheeler was elected Chair and Wilf Morley was elected Vice Chair of the Accessibility Advisory Committee for 2008.

PRESENTATIONS

 

2. Neil MacDonald, Project Manager, Environmental Services Department, regarding 'Site Plan for the Proposed Community Environmental Centre in Vaughan'.  Received. 

 

Staff was requested to forward a copy of the final design, when available, to the Committee members for a response within two days of receipt.

 

3. James Lane, Area Forester, Natural Heritage and Forestry Services, Roads Branch, Transportation Services Department, regarding 'York Regional Forest � The Natural Experience'.  Received.

COMMUNICATIONS

 

4. Piragal Thiru, Planner � Accessible Services, York Region Transit, Transportation Services Department, dated February 6, 2008 regarding 'Volunteers needed to participate in the Travel Training Pilot Program'.  Received.

 

Committee members interested in participating should contact Piragal Thiru at York Region Transit.

 

5. Heather Andrews, Chair, Whitchurch-Stouffville Accessibility Advisory Committee, regarding 'Accessibility Advisory Committee Breakfast Meeting' and Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville advertisement regarding 'Emergency Preparedness Workshop for People with Disabilities or Special Needs'.  Received.

 

Staff will follow-up with the Region's Emergency Management Branch to arrange for a future presentation to the Accessibility Advisory Committee.  In addition, Kirsten Hill and Wilf Morley will be attending the Whitchurch-Stouffville Emergency Preparedness Workshop and will provide an update at the next Committee meeting.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

6. Lois Davies, Acting Senior Program Manager, ODA, Community and Health Services Department, regarding brief update on the 'Development of the York Region 2008 Accessibility Plan'.  Received.

 

The 2008 Accessibility Plan will be presented to Regional Council on April 24, 2008, and staff will forward invitations and further details to all Committee members.

 

7. Lois Davies, Acting Senior Program Manager, ODA, Community and Health Services Department, regarding brief update on the 'Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005'.  Received.

 

8. Trish Robichaud, YRAAC member, regarding report back on 'AMCTO's Accessibility Standards for Customer Service Training Session'.  Received.

 

9. The Accessibility Advisory Committee will be establishing accessibility priorities for 2008 at the next meeting.  Cordelia Abankwa-Harris requested the Committee members to be prepared to identify specific areas that the Committee can be involved in at the next meeting. 

 

 

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
