York Region and York Regional Police set a goal of $400,000 for its 2012 United Way Staff Campaign

Employee fundraising supports programs to meet urgent needs within the community
The Regional Municipality of York and York Regional Police have announced a $400,000 staff fundraising goal in support of the United Way York Region’s 2012 campaign.
“York Region staff give generously to the United Way every year to help the community and make it an even better place to live,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch. “By supporting the United Way, we help improve the lives of those in need whether they are friends, family or neighbours.”
The announcement was made during a United Way kick-off ceremony and barbecue luncheon today.
In 2011, York Region surpassed its campaign goal and raised $381,000.  Since 1999, the Region has raised more than $1.8 million for the United Way York Region.
“York Region and its employees continue to show their strong commitment to United Way York Region and for helping our residents, families and neighbourhoods thrive,” said Daniele Zanotti, Chief Executive Officer, United Way York Region.
Each year, United Way York Region assists more than 270,000 people overcome difficulties through the support of more than 100 community programs.
“Through every United Way campaign, I am amazed at the kindness and commitment employees demonstrate to help others through our fundraising efforts,” said Erin Mahoney the Region’s Commissioner of Environmental Services and campaign co-chair. “This year’s campaign goal is challenging but not insurmountable. I look forward to seeing everyone pull together, as they have year after year, to reach our goal.”
As part of the staff campaign, members of the public are invited to the Brand Wizard Sale at 40 Engelhard Dr, Unit 2, Town of Aurora, during September 13 through 15.  During this event, a portion of all the sales will go toward York Region’s United Way staff campaign.
The United Way York Region unveiled its campaign goal of $8.26 million for 2012 at the annual Toromont CAT Dragon Boat Festival at Seneca College’s King campus last month.
