YRT/Viva crowns new Bus Roadeo Champion

New champion will represent York Region at international APTA Bus Roadeo
NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York held the 5th Annual YRT/Viva Bus Roadeo yesterday, highlighting the skills of our highly-trained bus operators. Placing first in a series of skills competitions is Mile Mitkovski from contracted operator Veolia Transportation Canada Inc.  As Bus Roadeo Champion, Mile will move on to represent York Region at the 2013 American Public Transit Association (APTA) Bus Roadeo in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Two additional operators earned honours for their performance at the Bus Roadeo:
2nd Place – Frank Muir, Veolia Transportation Canada Inc.
3rd Place – Dorell Atkinson, Miller Transit Ltd.
YRT/Viva operators are trained professionals who bring safe, friendly and reliable transit service to York Region streets and communities. The annual Bus Roadeo provides a fun, interactive opportunity for operators to showcase their abilities and receive recognition for their hard work. 
YRT/Viva service is provided by approximately 800 operators employed by four York Region contracted service providers: Miller Transit Ltd, Veolia Transportation Inc., York BRT Services and TOK Transit Ltd.
Service is provide in a large and growing YRT/Viva bus fleet containing more than 440 YRT, Viva and Mobility Plus vehicles.
YRT/Viva offers local and rapid transit services throughout all nine municipalities in York Region. More than 120 routes keep residents connected within York Region, as well as with connecting services in the City of Toronto and the Region of Peel. In 2011, 19.8 million riders used YRT/Viva with an average of 80,000 boardings made each weekday.
