Region and York Regional Police employees recognized by United Way

Spirit awards acknowledge staff for running an exemplary campaign

NEWMARKET - The Regional Municipality of York and York Regional Police have been awarded the 2011 Employee Campaign Spirit Award and the Community Spirit Award at the United Way Campaign Celebration Ceremony held yesterday in the City of Vaughan.

In 2011, York Region and York Regional Police raised $381,000 at its annual United Way Employee Campaign, marking its most successful campaign to date.

“This is an outstanding achievement for York Region and York Regional Police employees,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch. “Regional staff have a long history of working with the United Way. Exceeding our $380,000 campaign goal is a testament to our employee’s drive and generosity.”

The Employee Campaign Spirit Award for 300 plus employees is awarded to organizations that ran an exemplary campaign, demonstrated by effective team coordination and successful planning.

The York Region Community Spirit Award for 300 or more employees is awarded to the organization achieving the largest contribution to United Way York Region’s Community Fund for local programs and services.

This is the fifth consecutive year York Region has received the Community Spirit Award.

“Employees had tremendous spirit throughout this campaign” said York Region Chief Administrative Officer, Bruce Macgregor, Cabinet Chair of the United Way of York Region. “York Region’s campaign success is a part of a larger campaign story which will help one in three people across our community.”

Since 1999, York Region has raised more than $1.9 million for United Way of York Region.

“Certainly, this harsh economic climate has made our work even more important,” said United Way of York Region CEO, Daniele Zanotti. “I would like to commend York Region employees for their commitment to running a spirited and results-oriented campaign.”

“Year after year, the energy, time and commitment of York Region employees help us reach our campaign goal,” said Environmental Services Commissioner, Erin Mahoney, 2011 Campaign Co-Chair along with York Regional Police Deputy Chief Tom Carrique. “We appreciate this acknowledgement from the United Way knowing that each dollar raised will allow us to contribute to frontline programs in neighbourhoods across the Region.”

United Way of York Region presented 31 Spirit Award for outstanding campaign accomplishments. This year’s United Way of York Region campaign raised a record $8.18 million for frontline services.
