Waste Management Master Plan initiative to drive ‘home’ the 4Rs
NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York is looking for three York Region families who are up for a challenge.
The SM4RT Living Plan will create a road map to help guide waste management in York Region for the next 40 years. It will advance waste prevention and reuse, while maximizing recycling, composting, and energy recovery.
The SM4RT Living Family Challenge, a critical component of the SM4RT Living Plan, offers participating families a chance to explore what a SM4RT Living future means. Families will take part in unique challenges, discovering new talents and interests along the way. With these challenges come rewards, and participating families have the opportunity to win exceptional prizes.
Over the course of the challenge, three families will:
• Learn how to unclutter their lives
• Improve their wellbeing
• Make sustainable lifestyle changes
• Discover how easy ‘green living’ can be
Selected families will be given tasks to heighten their awareness as a consumer and as a member of their community. The challenge will take place over a three-month period, from April 1 to June 30, 2012. The various challenges will require the families to discover products available to them locally as well as sharpen their research skills to discover where or how they can accomplish their challenge. Everyone is invited to follow our families on Twitter @YorkRegionGovt and Facebook www.facebook.com/YorkRegion
and on the SM4RT Living website www.sm4rtliving.ca
Application forms for the SM4RT Living Family Challenge are available online at www.sm4rtliving.ca
The SM4RT Living Challenge is open to all families living in York Region. Families must live in the same household and have more than one family member. The main family contact must be 18 years of age or older. Application forms and submissions will be reviewed and a maximum of three families will be selected to take part.
