16th Avenue remains closed in the Town of Markham following a fatal motor vehicle collision west of Hwy 48

Road closure to extend through afternoon rush hour into evening
NEWMARKET - All lanes of 16th Avenue remain closed between Highway 48 and Quarry Stone Road in the Town of Markham due to an earlier fatal motor vehicle collision.
 
The collision is currently under investigation by York Regional Police.
 
16th Avenue will remain closed through the afternoon rush hour and into the evening.
 
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and take Major Mackenzie Drive East (to the north) as an alternate route.
 
York Region thanks motorists for their patience.
 
Please note: All lanes of Bloomington Road East (at Kennedy Road) in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville are now open following an earlier motor vehicle collision.
