The Regional Municipality of York approves 2011 to 2015 Strategic Plan

Plan will implement detailed course of action for current term of York Regional Council
NEWMARKET - York Regional Council has approved a 2011 to 2015 Strategic Plan for The Regional Municipality of York. The plan provides a detailed course of action to guide the implementation of the long-term planning work contained in the York Region Official Plan, Vision 2026 and Vision 2051.
“The 2011 to 2015 Strategic Plan is a practical tool that outlines priorities for our Council and provides a framework for accomplishing our goals,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch. “I am very pleased this strategy complements similar strategic visions in our local municipalities and builds on the valuable long-term planning work we have accomplished over the past several years.”
York Regional Council approved the development of a strategic plan in May. Council set out five key areas for the strategy to cover:
• A four-year timeframe to match the term of Regional Council
• Specific goals and objectives
• Measures to monitor progress
• Links to current operational business and budget planning
• Highlighting achievements across the corporation
Following an extensive data gathering period, several general areas were identified as priorities for the plan, including the economy, low income groups, housing affordability and increasing costs for infrastructure and services to residents. To address these issues, the 2011 to 2015 Strategic Plan focuses on seven areas:
• Continue to deliver and sustain critical infrastructure
• Improve social and health supports
• Increase the economic vitality of the Region
• Focus growth along Regional centres and corridors
• Manage the Region’s finances prudently
• Make Regional services more user-friendly
• Strengthen organizational capacity
“Combining our strategies into one concise document refines our business priorities into practical goals for Regional Council,” said Town of Richmond Hill Mayor David Barrow, Chair of the Region’s Finance and Administration Committee. “With the many programs and services we provide, this strategic vision will serve to keep our outlook focused on how best to serve our residents.”
