The Regional Municipality of York extends road closure on Bayview Avenue due to watermain break

All lanes closed from John Street to Steeles Avenue
NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York has closed all lanes on Bayview Avenue between John Street and Steeles Avenue in the Town of Markham due to an earlier watermain break. The break has caused significant pavement damage along the centre of Bayview Avenue.

York Region and the Town of Markham continue their assessment to determine the extent of the damage.

Early indications suggest that all lanes will remain closed throughout the weekend and through the morning rush hour on Monday, November 7.

York Region has placed electronic message signs throughout the area, advising motorists to detour to Yonge Street or Leslie Street. Traffic signal timing has been adjusted to help accommodate detouring motorists.

York Region is maintaining local access only to Laureleaf Road from the north and Proctor Avenue from the south. Sidewalks remain open to pedestrians.

YRT/Viva Route 91 and 91a buses are experiencing delays and are detouring around the closure.

York Region thanks residents and motorists for their patience as emergency repairs continue.
