Draft of Vision 2051 circulated for comments and input

It is not too late to share your ideas for the future
NEWMARKET - York Regional Council today endorsed a draft of Vision 2051, a publication that presents a picture of what people want York Region to be like in 40 years, and directed staff to circulate it widely for further comments and input.
The draft of Vision 2051 was developed through extensive internal and external consultation, including input from Regional Council, residents, Regional stakeholders, partners and staff through a number of discussion sessions and an internet-based consultation program.
“We welcome your input on this draft of Vision 2051,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch. “There is time to share your ideas and incorporate them into this important document that charts what York Region residents and stakeholders want to see the Region become over the next four decades.”
The draft of Vision 2051 takes into account emerging trends and issues and incorporates a number of significant Regional policies and initiatives over the past 10 years.
“Over the coming years, our communities will face a range of issues that could have major impact on our lives,” said Town of Newmarket Regional Councillor John Taylor, Chair of the Region’s Planning and Economic Development Committee. “How we approach issues such as community design, climate change, transportation, waste management, demographic changes, economic vitality, housing demands and the human service needs of our population is critical to sustaining our quality of life over the long term.”
The draft of Vision 2051 has eight goal areas and corresponding actions that lead York Region in a direction that the community envisions for 2051. The goals and actions within the draft of Vision 2051 are closely aligned with similar local municipal strategies, our neighbouring jurisdictions and major Provincial initiatives.
After a review of the draft with our partners, stakeholders and the community, a final Vision 2051 document will be brought forward to Regional Council early in 2012 for approval.
The draft is posted on the Vision 2051 webpage and is available through Facebook and links through Twitter. In addition, print copies are available to anyone who requests them. Copies will also be circulated to our nine local municipalities.
