The Regional Municipality of York annual Composting Made Easy event teaches how to turn organic waste into garden gold

Composters on sale for $10 each while supplies last
NEWMARKET - The Regional Municipality of York encourages residents to divert organic waste from landfill through active participation in the Green Bin program and by reaping the benefits of a backyard garden composter.  A number of free seminars are planned for residents to attend.
WHAT: Composting Made Easy

WHEN: Saturday, May 7, 2011

TIME:  9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

COST:  Composters are $10 each (cash only), limit of two per home, while supplies last

York Region residents are invited to attend free composting and vermicomposting (composting with worms) seminars to learn how to turn organic scraps into nutrient-rich compost for their lawn and garden.  Topics include: 
SEMINAR: Backyard Composting with Master Composter Robin Tench 

TIME:  10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
  12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m
SEMINAR: Vermicomposting (composting with worms) hosted by Cathy Nesbitt of Cathy’s Crawly Composters

TIME: 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Representatives from Goodwill will be on site accepting good quality reusable goods such as clothing, books, CDs, DVDs, games, sports equipment, cameras and more. 
Habitat for Humanity will be at the event collecting unwanted renovation materials including kitchen and bathroom cabinets and counters, unopened cans of paint, plumbing and light fixtures, windows and doors.
