Exercise Collaborative Storm” to test York Region’s response to a tornado touchdown
NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York will hold its annual emergency exercise on Monday, May 30 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Dubbed Exercise Collaborative Storm, the exercise involves a severe weather event, including a suspected tornado touchdown scenario in the Towns of Georgina and East Gwillimbury that cause significant property damage and personal injury.
York Region will open its Regional Emergency Operations Centre (REOC) at the York Region Administrative Centre as part of the exercise.
The purpose of an annual exercise is to test York Region’s response to different types of emergencies and fulfil provincial legislative requirements.
The exercise will involve a Simulation Cell (Sim-cell) in which more than 250 inputs will be communicated to the REOC for added realism.
