Young girl becomes paramedic for a day

In celebration of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week May 15 to 21
NEWMARKET – York Region EMS paramedics will grant an important wish to a deserving child from the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada during EMS Week May 15 to 21.

Hayley Cunneyworth, the 12-year-old wish recipient, will become a paramedic for the day.  She will be outfitted with her own uniform and will learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and how to intubate and start intravenous therapy (IV).
Hayley, who turned 12 in April, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in 2010.  In December 2010, the Children’s Wish Foundation sent Hayley, along with her parents and younger brother, on a seven-night Disney Cruise Eastern Caribbean voyage.  Hayley would like to be a nurse or doctor when she is older.
