The Regional Municipality of York salutes Sustainable Works months

Public Works partnering with our communities
NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York will showcase our environmental initiatives and services through a series of public events throughout the months of April, May and June.

Throughout the Sustainable Works months, events and activities will be featured to raise public awareness of environmental programs available and provide residents in York Region with an opportunity to understand their impact on their surroundings – both at home and in their community.

“Sustainable Works Months showcase many of our environmental initiatives and the dedicated Regional employees who make them possible,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch.  “At the same time, we help our residents learn about the environment, including ways to conserve valuable resources and get a chance to see some of the behind-the-scenes equipment – up close.”

Featured events during Public Works Months include:

• Water for Tomorrow Gardening Seminar Series
• Earth Week Fair
• Adopt-a-Stream Crossing Program
• Spring Forest Festival
• YO!  Youth Onboard Earthweek Displays

Events will take place throughout all nine York Region municipalities. York Region staff members will be participating in additional events throughout the remainder of the year.

“Sustainable Works months are an excellent way for our residents to know what public works services York Region has to offer – and to take advantage of as many as possible,” said Town of Richmond Hill Regional Councillor Vito Spatafora, Chair of the Region’s Environmental Services Committee.  “There are activities for every age, and we encourage everyone to come out and get involved.”

York Region’s Sustainable Works events and activities are co-ordinated and attended by 700 Environmental and Transportation Services staff as well as numerous volunteers.
