Road closures tomorrow for funeral procession of York Regional Police Constable

NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York will work with York Regional Police to close a section of Yonge Street and surrounding access roads in the Town of Newmarket tomorrow for the funeral procession of York Regional Police Constable Garrett Styles.

Full road closures will begin at 10 a.m. and extend to approximately 2 p.m. on the following roads:

  • Yonge Street from Kingston Road (north of the Upper Canada Mall) to Eagle Street
  • Davis Drive from Yonge Street to George Street (one block east of Yonge Street)
  • Eagle Street from Davis Drive to Yonge Street

Road closures with access for local traffic only will begin at 10:30 a.m. and extend to approximately 2 p.m. on the following roads:

  • Yonge Street between Eagle Street and Mulock Drive
  • Davis Drive between Bathurst Street and Yonge Street

Signs are in place along Yonge Street, Green Lane, Bathurst Street, Mulock Drive and Eagle Street alerting motorists to the road closures. Motorists are advised to expect delays on all surrounding roads for the duration of the procession and funeral.

The closure will also affect some YRT/Viva bus and GO Transit bus routes. Additional staff from YRT/Viva will be deployed to help direct riders. The following YRT/Viva routes will be affected:

  • 22A – King City
  • 44 – Bristol-London
  • 52 – Holland-Landing
  • 53 – Woodspring-Clearmeadow
  • 55 – Davis Drive
  • 55B – Davis Drive
  • 56 – Gorham-Eagle
  • 98 – Yonge
  • Viva Blue
  • 520 – Newmarket Community Bus
  • 521 – Newmarket Community Bus

    York Region thanks motorists, transit users and the public for their assistance as the procession and funeral for Constable Styles takes place.

    The Region reminds residents that those wishing to pay their respects to Constable Styles and York Regional Police may do so by standing along Yonge Street during the procession or in the southwest parking lot of the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex during the funeral. Audio and video will be set up outside the recreation complex.
