Repairs are ongoing at both sites but may take several days to complete
NEWMARKET – A broken watermain on Keele Street near Masters Avenue in the City of Vaughan has forced additional lane closures on York Region roads today.
The lane closures on Keele Street follow earlier lane closures on Bathurst Street near Highway 7 after a previous watermain break that was reported late yesterday.
Staff from the City of Vaughan are conducting repairs on the Keele Street watermain breakage, but advise that repairs may take several days. York Region continues to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction during the closure.
Staff from The Regional Municipality of York continue to work on repairs to the broken Bathurst Street watermain near Highway 7 and also advise that repairs may take several days. All efforts are being made to maintain access to as many lanes as possible, with one lane currently open in each direction. However, ongoing work may limit the number of lanes open as well as access to the westbound Highway 407 ramp.
Commuters can expect significant delays at both sites and are advised to avoid each area.
Portable electronic messaging signs have been placed at both work sites advising commuters of the situation and providing detour information.
Additional transit buses remain deployed to assist riders near the Bathurst Street site.
York Region thanks motorists, transit users and residents for their patience as these emergency repairs are completed. Updates will be provided as repairs progress.
