Regional staff and York Regional Police receive two Spirit Awards
NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York and York Regional Police has received two Spirit Awards in recognition of the 2010 staff campaign which raised more than $320,000 in support of the United Way of York Region.
“This recognition is an achievement that all of our employees can be proud of,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch. “York Region and York Regional Police staff have gone above and beyond and exceeded our $300,000 fundraising goal, making the 2010 campaign our most successful ever.”
York Region received the following two awards presented at a United Way of York Region celebration event last night:
• Employee Campaign Spirit Award: 300 + employees (Local Campaign) – presented to the employee campaign that shows progressive growth in participation
• York Region Community Spirit Award: 300+ employees (Local Campaign) – presented to the organization that raises the most money for United Way of York Region to invest in local priorities
This is the fourth consecutive year York Region has received the Community Spirit Award.
“Staff ran a fun and truly spirited campaign that raised awareness and helped people in need throughout our community,” said York Regional Police Deputy Chief Bruce Herridge, 2010 Campaign Co-Chair along with Kathleen Llewellyn-Thomas, the Region’s Transportation Services Commissioner. “This is a great recognition of all our staff’s efforts.”
“York Region employees and police made a significant contribution to the wider United Way’s success,” said York Region Chief Administrative Officer Bruce Macgregor, who is also Cabinet Chair for the United Way of York Region. “We came together as an organization to help the community in which we work and many of us live in.”
Since 1999, the Region has raised more than $1.6 million for the United Way of York Region. This year’s campaign helped the United Way successfully achieve $8.1 million for 2010.
“I want to again congratulate York Region and York Regional Police staff and volunteers for such a successful employee campaign,” said United Way of York Region CEO Daniele Zanotti. “I also want to extend a most heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the one in three people and 100 beneficiary community programs and agencies United Way supports, every single day.”
